Date 20-08-2016

Visão magazine interviewed the CEO Pedro Garcia de Matos and published an article covering the new project of the group in Angola, making a picture of the activity of the whole group in Portugal and internationally.

In an article entitled "Portuguese win a huge farm in Angola", referring to the new project of Euroeste in Cunene province, Visão magazine publishes three pages in its paper edition, which result from an interview with Pedro Garcia de Matos.

"The Portuguese group Euroeste was chosen to develop and manage the largest agro-industrial complex that will be built in Angola". These are the first lines of the article, published in Visão Magazine, which starts by reviewing the agro-industrial project in Cunene province for which Euroeste will be responsible for the "whole process of support for the construction and implementation of the work", explains Pedro Garcia de Matos.

Characterizing it as a "megaproject that will reduce the dependence of that African country of imported foreign food", Visão magazine summarizes the new project of Euroeste in Angola, which "will occupy 110,000 hectares of space", referring to the "total investment of about 500 million euros" from the "Angolan society S. Tulumba, Investimentos e Participações, owned by the entrepreneur Silvestre Tulumba Kapose" essencially "motivated" by the challenge that the President of Angola, José Eduardo dos Santos, launched to the business class in the country to invest in agriculture, livestock and agro-industry in order to ensure food self-sufficiency".

Every area of the project is mentioned in the article:

  • Cereal production of 20,000 hectares of irrigated land;
  • Vegetable production, with annual production estimated at 15,000 tons of potatoes, 7,500 tons of carrot and 5,000 tons of onion;
  • Production of 40,000 tons of tomato plant and respective derivatives (pulp, concentrates, etc.) per year;
  • Feed production;
  • Pig with 2,200 ows and estimated annual production of 55,000 pigs;
  • Cattle farming with 2,200 cows to produce 22 million liters of milk per year and 1,000 tons of calf meat per year;
  • Slaughterhouse and sausage, with capacity to transform 55,000 pigs per year;
  • Production and slaughter of poulty (with capacity to process 250,000 chickens per day);
  • Corn meal production.
  •

A "great challenge" that Pedro Garcia de Matos claims to be "rewarding", made possible by the know-how of the Euroeste group: "We have accumulated plenty experience in all agro-industrial areas", says the CEO.

Visão Magazine describes the group's presence in Angola, referring, among other projects, Santo António's Farm, and analyzes Euroeste's activity in Portugal, where - in addition to the agricultural production of cereals and vegetables, the feed production and cattle farming, among other areas - is the "country´s largest pig producer".

The rest of the international activity of the group also deserves mention, namely the project in Venezuela, the operation in Bulgaria and the presence in Brazil.

Regarding Venezuela, Pedro Garcia de Matos refers to signing "a major contract with the Venezuelan authorities to build and manage a large project", which is currently "on standby" due to the difficulties happening in the country.

For Bulgaria, where Euroeste has its own project with 1,500 sows that require annual production of about 10,000 tons of feed and allow the production of 37,000 pigs a year, the chief executive of Euroeste highlights "an interesting market" that "gives access to the purchase of cereals in the black sea area".

About Brazil, the interview mentions the project of Fazenda Saudável, "where the group already has an area of 4,000 hectares to farm", and Pedro Garcia de Matos explains the creation of economies of scale: "Portugal does not have enough land to produce corn for feeds that allow the feeding of all the animals the group creates. In Brazil one can cultivate enough corn to produce feed for pig feed in Portugal. This way, I am self-sufficient without being dependent on the speculation on the raw materials´ prices".

The article of Visão Magazine,  that you might consult and download in the .pdf  does not end without first referring the distinction of the London Stock Exchange Group, which considered Euroeste as "one of the 1000 small and medium-sized European companies in which entrepreneurs can inspire".
